BEHIND THE SCENES: PHOTOSHOOT WEEK TWO

WATCH MY “BEHIND THE SCENES VIDEO AT LAKE KATHERINE”

This week was quite challenging. The day that I went to take photos for my blog, it started raining.

I was so determined to take the photos anyway that I went out to get an umbrella, a poncho, and garbage bags (none of which is shown in the video) to try and make the day successful. I sat in my car and Googled, “taking photos in the rain” — that’s where the idea with the garbage bags came from. I was able to get some photos, but I was feeling really down about the way that they turned out because it wasn’t initially what I envisioned.

Then, I wanted to finish up my first blog post for the week on Monday, but I was so overwhelmed by all of these negative thoughts and feelings that I decided to take a break and come back to it when I was in a better mode. If you follow me on Instagram, then you know what I am talking about.

I’m sharing all of this to say that when we compare ourselves to others– others who’s work is great and appears to be flawless, we don’t see what goes on behind the scenes. We don’t see how hard they’ve worked or how much effort they’ve put into what they do.

In addition to that, often times we compare ourselves to people who have been doing what they do for YEARS. They’ve put in the hard work. They’ve suffered the challenging moments. They’ve endured the process. The work that we see is a result of diligence and effort.

So, it’s okay to admire and even aspire to do great work like those who inspire us, but save the comparisons– they do nothing but frustrate us and stunt our growth.

  1. YOU ARE THE BOMB!!! I would not have the patience to do a photoshoot of a photoshoot so kudos Stephanie!! Great photography, content, and inspiration. Oh and the comparison trap leaves some ugly scars when trying to wiggle out of them…finding my own style and method is what makes me unique and others as well. Awesome article! Thank you for your hard work! 🙂

    1. ☺️ thank you! I’m trying to step it up a little and put a little more effort into my work. Comparisons, well, trying not to is definitely a struggle but I feel like once there is light shed on something it gets a little easier to overcome with the help of the Lord. I’m learning to find my own style as well and enjoying it actually.
