Blog Thought #2: Promoting Yourself on Social Media

…can be scary. Point. Blank. Period.

You can have a YouTube channel if you want or even a blog that exposes all of your innermost thoughts and feelings, but until you blast yourself on social media, you can almost forget about being heard… I mean, really heard.

And it’s possible that you may not even want that much exposure, but if you do, then social media is a must.

People can share your videos all day long, but until you become the first advocate for promoting yourself, your videos, your ideas, your brand, no one will hardly ever take you seriously.

Taking the initiative to promote yourself lets others know that you believe in your message and what you’re selling. They need to see YOU. Your passion. Your dedication. Your fire. Your face. They need to see YOU driving YOUR brand.

But truth be told, a lot of us know the power of social media and it’s precisely why we won’t use it to promote ourselves.

All of those people, we think to ourselves, especially when it comes to Facebook– “the social media giant.” It’s the “BIG Kahuna”–the “BIG dog” of social media. We wouldn’t dare think about putting ourselves out there like that. We actually become intimidated by the thought of everyone finding out what it is that we’re doing (but at the same time, we want everyone to know what it is that we’re doing…(hmm)).

My advice (and Nike’s): Don’t think too much about it, just do it. Give yourself a chance to be great. Promote yourself. If you have something that you think will help or be beneficial to others, why would you keep that to yourself? Find comfort in knowing that you’re doing some of the good in the world. Rest assured in that.

By the way, you can find me on Facebook…I’m back.
